For Soulbound Legions’ new artistic approach, we researched and drew inspiration from other current RTS and RPG games like Kingshot, Heroes vs. Hordes, and Capybara Go. Our intention was to move away from heavily loaded, ornate interfaces like Diablo or League of Legends, and find a balance between an adult and a casual tone.

We chose the Promt font from Google Fonts because it’s royalty-free and also contains symbols for 526 languages, which would make it easier to implement when translating the game into different languages. It’s a simple sans-serif font with good legibility and a variety of sizes.

At Bisuala, in addition to redesigning icons and elements that already existed in the first build of the game, we developed a large collection of assets for new features of the video game.

The UI redesign for Soulbound Legion was a creative challenge that involved blending traditional design principles with modern technology due delivery time limitations. A key part of our workflow was the strategic use of generative AI for specific visual elements. We primarily use AI to generate specific blueprints and layouts that will help us place the different elements. Bisuala only used fully AI generated assets for some icon concepts and background illustrations.

We never referenced specific artists or IPs when generating ideas and assets. Each element was created from our own creative direction, resulting in original work that respected the efforts of other creators. This project shows how AI can be used as an ethical and valuable tool in the design process.
